robots of new york city

so, i understand trends. i can't say i don't ever fall into the "trendy" trap...but its interesting how i will buy something at the thrift store and see it in urban outfitters two years later. this happens to me A LOT, and then makes me want to put the item to rest for a while.

when there is so much individual beauty in the world, why do we choose to look like clones? i work in the garment district and this is what i have to see every single day....

now ladies, do you all have to wear the exact same dress, shoes, purse and have the SAMe haircut?? in the fashion capital of the world.. its hard watching folks walking down the street.

oh and ps.

urban outfitters, this dress can not seriously be priced at $78. in mexico, its like $15.

damn pirates!

T-I-M-E

last night when i got home from a long day i sat and thought about all of the work i wanted to get done on my new collection. i sat on my bed and leaned back and just sat there. my mind was racing but my muscles were trying to go to sleep. i was bothered bc i knew it should just rest, but i wanted to work work work.

so to satisfy my urge, i wrote all the ideas i had in my head; on paper. i felt so much better. i felt like i could rest and it was okay.

then i remembered this conversation i was having with a record producer... he said he was always in the studio day and night. he said that if he stopped working, he would be loosing all of these great ideas that had been clouding his head.

now i feel like that. its weird how ideas can just be flooding in or you are searching and searching and nothing seems to appear. i feel like im on fire right now...and i won't let it go out. =)

soooo...

all of this contemplating this morning got me thinking about the things i love. what i love to do and what i make time for. there are just so many things that i would absolutely LOVE to do and learn right now. here's my dream schedule for a week day:

8:00 rise/meditate
8:30 running/swimming
10:00 breakfast/planning
10:30 wounded heart designs work (or other art projects)
1:00 lunch
1:45 guitar lesson/practice
2:45 wounded heart designs (art)
7:00 dinner/time w friends & family
9:30 relaxation/whatever time

what is the difference between copying and being inspired by someone's work?

i recently had a friend who said she was so inspired by something that i did, that she "borrowed" my design idea of mine. i was not happy about it.

so in a nutshell, i gave a friend of mine some earrings that i created. she said they were too heavy for her ears so she decided to make them in a lighter gauge wire. she loved them so much that she borrowed the design and made some of her own (my design with a few changes) she then continued with it and starting selling the earrings in boutiques...

i really didn't know what to say when she told me. i was thinking, well maybe its not exactly the same. but then, i kept thinking about what she said about "borrowing" the idea and selling the item. i couldn't get past that.

now we are all inspired by something else. not much is original these days because there are brilliant people everywhere through out the universe. we as human keep re-creating the same things in different ways. but i couldn't help to be bothered that my "friend" would take an idea of mine and call it "borrowing."

this friend showed absolutely no remorse for my feelings in the situation. that's what upset me the most. maybe my definition of a friend is different then hers. maybe it just doesn't mean that much and its okay in her world to be inconsiderate.

all i know is, i wouldn't copy her work. no matter what. that is not why i choose to create things. creating comes from a deep down place somewhere inside me where i cant even see. things just happen, and at the strangest times. i will be trying so hard for an idea and nothing will come...or i will just be messing around and a brilliant idea appears...and brilliant is in the eye of the beholder.

i love to do art and i treat what i do with respect. ive heard discussions about how doing art is extremely selfish. i believe that is somewhat true. sometimes people take their work too seriously and some don't. i cant say i take myself completely seriously, bc there would be no fun in that... however, i do know that i still respect and care about the things that come out of me. they are a part of me.

i would expect the next person of the street to rip me off, but a friend, no. and maybe that's me being naive...
